Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The significance of youths today depends heavily on the ability, and professional outreach others pour into their lives because, during these unprecedented times of great change, young people are not being taught how to navigate life or manage their emotions based on their authentic selves.
At NuWell Counseling Services, we receive countless calls from parents who are demanding help and answers regards to ways of communicating with their youths. Therefore, we counsel young people on how to be positive young adults for themselves and society. We counsel on being a leader rather than a follower. We empower them to be self-valued individuals of their communities capable of leading by example, even if they’re the first generation to do so.
Significance begins with the self. So, perhaps the biggest influence on one’s internal significance isn’t what’s happening externally. What if the most consuming factor in significance is starting with yourself, more specifically, your thoughts regarding who you are? Not many discuss the proverbial “voice in your head,” but we have more internal conversations with this voice than the cumulative conversations we speak out loud.
All moments should be experienced and washed over our minds, bodies, and spirits. It’s when emotions, events, and experiences get stuck that our energy gets stuck too. This causes youths to feel insignificant, unimportant, not seen, unappreciative, a burden, and more. So, the next time your internal voice becomes chatty or stuck, simply tell it to stop, rest, and take a nap. You may just be surprised at the newfound significance that floods this wide-open space.
NuWell Counseling Services’ vision is to create an environment where a meaningful life for young adults can be realized by fostering an atmosphere of love, happiness, and belonging where all life is valued, voices are heard, and talents are developed to make a difference in the world because you matter. You are important. You are valued and valuable. The way you feel matters. It’s ok to do things that make you happy. I encourage you to start with “yourself” You’re significant, and I can’t wait as a therapist to see you THRIVE.
