For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
Sin can only enter us when we allow it in our hearts. Placing ourselves in situations that tempt us to sin takes away our authority through prayer and gives it to the forces of evil to sway us. As Christians, we are told repeatedly to guard our hearts by our churches and the Bible. The first step to becoming victorious in spiritual warfare is acknowledging that the fight is real and looking into your own heart.
The thought that unseen forces can sway us to darkness is a topic many Christians (and non-believers) find difficult to accept. The consequence of ignoring your spiritual plight is giving the Devil precisely what he’s after: an unguarded heart. When we ignore our spiritual wellness, sin begins to creep into us and lead us down a path of darkness. We distance ourselves from God this way and cannot hope to overcome the lies of Satan.
Through the fog of spiritual warfare, there is a light, the light of Christ Jesus. Jesus grants us authority over evil if we simply accept Him into our hearts and make the conscious decisions to be like Him. However, spiritual wellness isn’t an easy battle to overcome.
