After Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, sin was brought into the world. All our trials and tribulations originate from humankind creating a fallen world from God’s perfect creation. Nobody can say they’re genuinely stress-free, but how can Christians deal with the stresses of a fallen world in a way that honors God?
Stress can be a useful tool in life or the workplace; it tends to show us what we’re really made of. Stress can also be a tool of destruction, as it can lead to outbursts of anger, depression, anxiety, or worse. If left unchecked, stress can cause havoc in the life of a Christian and cause us to turn away from our faith. Thankfully, God understands our struggles and invites us to lean on him when we’re at our lowest.
“Cast your cares upon the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” Psalm 55:22. God knows humans are frail creatures and very plainly offers an invitation to His children through His Scriptures in Psalms and throughout the Bible. Jesus himself felt all of our stresses and pain when He died for our sins on the cross. Thinking about the scope of such a sacrifice can make us feel unworthy or embarrassed even to turn to God in times of stress.
When the world’s stresses get to Christians, our connection to God should be our source. Take a moment to stop and spend that moment talking with God in prayer with humility. Turn your stress to the Lord and seek his guidance and wisdom. Walk with God in times of stress, understand that God will never break His promises, and allow the righteous to fall.
However, sometimes God’s messages and signs to us can be unclear or confusing; Christians may even do the opposite of what He’s telling us and make us more stressed!
